Elecia Baird
My name is Elecia Baird, and I am a public school educator. I graduated with my bachelors degree at the end of 2013, and I have been serving in the classroom for 10 years. I love serving my community and have been able to do so as a liaison with my previous school, which allowed me to connect with local stakeholders to support our students and their families, within and outside of the classroom. I am currently the STEAM Lab teacher, at one of our local intermediate schools, and Director of Operations, for the boys basketball program at our local highschool. I enjoy working alongside others by equipping them, encouraging them, and helping them bring ideas to fruition. I love building relationships and empowering people to find their passions. Since moving to Georgia, I have been able to serve through my local church and other ministries within our area. I love pouring into women and their families; this gives me excitement in knowing I can still use my gifts and talents God has blessed me with as an educator. I look forward to continuing serving my community with Virtue by Design.

If I started or already owned a business—like my idea for The Shepherd’s Harvest, a faith-based, eco-friendly general store—I think social media and low-cost marketing strategies would be the most helpful. Social media is such a powerful tool, especially for small businesses trying to build a strong connection with their community. I’d use platforms like Instagram and Facebook to share our story, highlight our local farmers, post about new products, and give people tips on sustainable living. It’s a great way to keep things personal and authentic, which is super important for a business built on trust and values.
That said, I wouldn’t completely rule out traditional marketing. I think things like church bulletins, local event flyers, and even ads in community newspapers could still be really effective for reaching older customers or folks who aren’t as plugged into social media.
As for low-cost strategies, I’d definitely lean into word-of-mouth, customer referrals, and maybe partner with other small local businesses for cross-promotion. Email newsletters could also be a great way to stay connected with regulars and keep them updated on new products and events.
